Opinions requested!! ~

Happy Monday everyone!

I spent a bit of time perusing The Lettered Cottage blog this weekend.  Holy crap, what a lovely blog Layla & Kev have there.

As I was looking through the posts about all the kitchen remodeling they have done, I spied the corbels she added underneath their builders grade cabinets.  I love them.  I was thinking of doing this in our kitchen.  My question is: Would it look as awesome as theirs or too busy?

Here is Layla & Kev's kitchen:

And my kitchen:

Would it just be too much going on?  I love how it makes them look more custom.

I'm also thinking of painting over the green wall {don't get mad, so many of you love that green wall}.
Thoughts on that??

Thanks!  Looking forward to hearing your opinions!

XOXO

  1. Hello! I like the green wall. I would paint the inside of the open shelving the same color. No the corbels would not be too busy. NO NO NO. If you paint the wall are you thinking of white? If you use white then I would paint the island a color.

  2. Hey Karen!

I do get LOTS of comments on the green wall, but I'm feeling like moving on.

You almost read my mind. I would make the wall cream/white. I was also thinking about painting the island, but deciding on a color is torture! I would beadboard the ends and paint the rest.

Any thoughts on a color for the island?

    1. Hi Jessica!

Yeah, so many people LOVE that wall. I do as well, but I like to constantly change things up! It's been that color for a couple years now. I do love it though!

  4. Ooh, paint the wall, add corbels and then maybe paint the island a fun color like aqua or maybe the green that was on the wall? Otherwise you could always do a neutral like black or gray as well. Just my thoughts!

    1. Hi ange!

I love where you are going with this! I think if I paint the island it would need to be a soft color. I really like the aqua idea, the green might be a bit much for me. Maybe even a creamy yellow? That might clash with the counter too much? LOVE your ideas!

  5. Meg, I like The Lettered Cottage's kitchen and I think the corbels are a great touch. For me, I like the all white (not the green) but that's just me. The green you have is a pretty color though. That's a personal decision. What if you paint the walls white and the base of the island green? Just an idea : )

    1. Hi Deanna!

I'm with you on the all white walls. Her's looks so fresh and bright. Her opposite wall is all black chalkboard paint and it is AWESOME!! My walls a textured so the chalkboard thing is a no go. But, I was thinking of painting the center panel of my pantry door with black chalkboard paint! I'm loving all these ideas!

  8. Since posting from my phone is apparently forbidden ...

Paint the walls the cream/white and your island a lighter shade of green. It would help brighten up your kitchen even more. I think the corbels would look awesome but in a slightly smaller scale than what they have. If you're super adventurous, paint them the same color as the island. I'm a huge fan of contrast but I know not everyone is.

    1. You know me well. You know the whole point of painting the cabinets is to lighten the kitchen up. I was also thinking smaller corbels. I dunno about the green on the island. I'm leaning more toward a neutral. I like the grey on her bottom cupboards.

Tanna has actually BEEN in my kitchen. :-)

  10. Hi Meg

I'm loving all the ideas I'm seeing above - I think the corbels will look awesome even if you don't paint the kitchen. It's just that the white and the lighting in her kitchen look so bright. I'm loving the darker bottom cupboards in the inspiration kitchen too.

    1. Hi Heather!

Yes, I love how light and bright her kitchen is. I'm totally drawn to it. I too love her darker lower cabinets. Maybe that would be a good option for the island?

  12. Please please add the corbels - they were made for your kitchen!!!
    If I could, I would.
And I know what you mean about painting - 2 years seems to be my
absolute limit with a wall color. You could check out French Country Cottage for inspiration as well - she painted her island black and it's amazing!
